What is virtual tourism? 

Virtual tourism is a next generation form of traveling. You need the right equipments (a smart phone, computer, tablet, headset) to travel virtually from your home.  

You can check for example museum or casino via VR or travel to Red Rock Canyon.  VR can help you either to travel in the place you have been thinking of or travel to a whole new destination. You can explore the destination before going there to know if it is a flop or a awesome place. 

 

Advantages and disadvantages  

There are few advantages in virtual tourism. It’s more environmental friendly than real life traveling because it doesn’t pollute our planet like traditional ways. With virtual tourism you can check the destination before you choose to go there irl. With virtual tourism you can go instantly to the chosen location.  

Of course there are disadvanteges too. Using VR in tourism is yet very expensive. VR glasses and other devices costs hundreds of euros. Also technology isn't fully developed for this form of tourism.  That's why you need a joystick or a keyboard to fulfill your experience. 

There are physical disadvantages too. You can get motion sickness from using these products for a long time and you should always do this traveling indoors. If you make a trip outdoors you can walk in front of people or worse. 

 

 

Our opinion and more 

Virtual tourism is going to be huge business in the future. It creates plenty of new opportunities on travel and tourism industry.  It also can develop tour experiences (for example in historical destinations), with VR you can dive in different eras and see how it looked back then.  

In our opinion virtual tourism is not going to replace travelling to real destinations. VT is great way to explore the world and for example disabled people can experience things that they otherwise can not do.
